What is mathematics?

Mathematics covers many areas of quantitative study, including topics in pure mathematics, applications to areas like cryptography and fluid flow, and preparation for careers in teaching, finance and other industries.

Why mathematics at OSU?

Small class sizes and innovative, project-oriented courses such as "Geometry and Algorithms in 3-D Modeling" enhance the curriculum for mathematics majors at OSU. Our degrees focus both on pure mathematics and careers in a variety of STEM fields or graduate school. You'll have many opportunities for related work experiences during college as well, including assisting in math classrooms or in the Mathematics Learning Success Center.

OSUTeach

Our option in Secondary Teaching Certification is part of OSUTeach, an innovative approach to training future secondary-education teachers with a strong background in the discipline.

 

Invaluable Labs

The Innovative 3D printing lab can take your ideas from the flat surface of your computer into real life. Math and science students use the printer to model particular problems. What will you create?

 

The Mathematics Learning Success Center (MLSC) provides free tutoring from instructors in lower-division courses and undergraduate tutors and has a 130-station laboratory with access to the web and media for self-guided study.
