Built in 1920, the original stadium was a wooden grandstand which seated 5,000. The first steel and concrete bleachers were constructed in 1924 bringing the seating capacity to 13,000. The first press box was built in the 1920s and additional seating was added when OSU joined the Big Seven Conference. The then named Lewis Field received upgrades including a larger press box, Astroturf and even more seating in 1972 with a capacity of 50,400.
Lewis Field was renamed Boone Pickens Stadium in 2003 when the renovations of the north side, south side, new suites, club level and the addition of the west end-zone began. After completion, Boone Pickens Stadium will be able to house 60,000 OSU fans with 1.1 million square feet.
