What is music education?

Rigorous and stimulating in nature, our program provides an environment that both challenges and prepares you to function in various capacities within the professional world of music.

Why music education at OSU?

Large enough to offer you rewarding performance opportunities, our music department is also small enough to provide you with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere to study music education. You'll have the opportunity to work with faculty who are nationally and internationally renowned artists and music scholars. The program also leads you toward completing an Oklahoma teacher's certificate.

Career Paths

Music education graduates are prepared for success in a wide variety of musical careers that include performance, teaching, working in the music industry and beyond. Our graduates have pursued successful careers in a variety of fields:

Highlights

Music education majors in the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music have ample opportunities to hone their skills and broaden their horizons through things such as:

  • Participation in bands, choirs and/or orchestra
  • Interaction with renowned guest artists and clinicians
  • One-on-one private instruction with teachers
  • Touring opportunities with ensembles
  • Invited performances at various conventions

Scholarships:

  • Scholarships are available for prospective freshmen, transfer students, current students and continuing students. When you complete the OSU admission application, you are automatically considered for the university level scholarships. Students are also eligible for college level scholarships within the College of Arts and Sciences after completing 12 hours at OSU. Some exceptions may apply. See specific scholarships for criteria. Departmental level scholarships are available for students whose major is housed within specific departments.
